With school back in session, parents are looking for interesting activities for the family close to home.
Often, those interesting and fun activities can be educational as well. We’re certain, you’ll enjoy these five activities:
Cummer Museum of Art and Gardens
The Cummer Museum is considered to be one of the most family friendly museums in Jacksonville. Children are encouraged to interact with art in many different ways from the Gallery Under Five Exhibit. This takes larger pieces in the gallery and shrinks them down to fun-size making it easier for children under the age of 5 to experience them in their own way. The museum provides a full list of classes that allow kids to engage in activities such as building cities, exploring animals in the garden, and creating their own masterpiece.
Riverside Art Market
Every Saturday, the residents of north Florida gather under the Fuller Warren Bridge to enjoy a fully stocked farmer’s market with treasures hand crafted by local artists while catching a variety of live performances. There’s always something exciting happening at this family-friendly weekly event.
Fort Caroline National Memorial Park
An important part of Jacksonville’s history, this is where children can learn of the attempted settlement made by the French and how the native Timucuan lived in precolonial times. This park hosts everything from a visitor’s center with exhibits to explore, nature trails and paths to follow and find animals that are native to the area. A Junior Ranger program invites kids learn about the natural areas around them.
Bordering the St. Johns River, this outdoor path has historical markers, buildings from years past, and all of the boat watching that you can handle! There is plenty of walking space to burn up some of that young energy! An added bonus: Riverwalk has some of Jacksonville’s best kid-friendly museums and centers along the way!
Mosh Museum of Science & History
The Mosh Museum makes for an exciting option for children of all ages. With a wide variety of exhibits and programs, this Museum will ensure every visitor is engaged and having a blast! Their “Florida Naturalist’s Center” provides a hands-on opportunity for up-close encounters with native animals. Get moving with the Health in Motion Exhibit to learn the importance of nutrition and good health. Ready for liftoff? Visit the Bryan-Gooding Planetarium to explore the galaxy while seated comfortably here on Earth!
